Dance~ Dance~ Dance~
Ocean~ Ocean~ Ocean~
Leap~ Leap~ Leap~
Last year we danced through the mountains; this year, we embrace the ocean. Bolero graces Kaohsiung with movement and melody this summer. A troupe of 14 dancers across 15 performances will take the stage beyond the confines of the theatre, inviting you to witness dance as never before. As we draw the curtains on this season, don't miss the grand finale—a special theatrical reproduction of "1875 Ravel and Bolero." Let's gather at the Weiwuying Opera House for a heartfelt adieu to "Bolero in Kaohsiung."
The "Dance-Travel Project" spans across the island, culminating in the "Bolero in Kaohsiung" performances. These renditions of 1875 Ravel and Bolero, echo the ebbs and flows of life itself, inviting audiences to embrace the raw essence of existence with its highs and lows. CHOU Shu-yi, drawing inspiration from the iconic piece by early 20th-century French composer RAVEL, has crafted a dance that resonates deeply with the heart. With over a hundred outdoor performances, this initiative has woven art into the fabric of everyday life, providing many their inaugural encounter with modern dance in public spaces like stations, parks, and temples.
A century has passed since RAVEL's last symphony debuted in 1928, yet its essence lives on through the expressive interpretations of countless dancers. This year, the outdoor edition of 1875 Ravel and Bolero reaches an unprecedented milestone, completing a tour through 38 districts of Kaohsiung, and etching a record in the city's cultural history.
If you've already had the pleasure of experiencing Bolero, don't miss out on what could be your last chance to be part of this extraordinary dance journey. The ocean serves as the grand finale for the "Bolero in Kaohsiung" project, and we warmly invite you to delve into the city's distinctive artistic milieu with us. In the ultimate performance, a special "theatrical" version of 1875 Ravel and Bolero will be showcased. Join us at the Weiwuying's Opera House for a memorable experience!
