[2026 Open House] HOU Chuan-an & HSU Chia-yu - Sounds of Glory: Trumpet and Organ
As part of the 10/10 Open House series at Weiwuying, trumpeter HOU Chuan-an and organist HSU Chia-yu present Sounds of Glory, a performance highlighting the vibrant contrast of timbres. The brilliant, clear melodies of the trumpet meet the grand, rich textures of the pipe organ, creating a captivating dialogue across high and low registers that showcases both delicate musical lines and magnificent stage presence.
This program offers an immersive listening experience designed to be accessible and engaging. Over the course of 30 minutes, the performers will blend demonstrations with live music, guiding the audience to explore instrument characteristics and musical structures in a relaxed setting. It is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to step into the Concert Hall and discover the unique charm of the trumpet and organ through an elegant and lighthearted musical journey.

Artists Introduction
Trumpet|HOU Chuan-an
Chuan-an started learning the trumpet with his father at the age of 12. He completed his bachelor's degree with a full scholarship at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (Singapore), and master's degree at New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Benjamin WRIGHT. Thereafter, he served as Principal Trumpet of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra from 2013-2022. He has also appeared as Guest Artist in numerous performances and recording sessions with orchestras in Hamburg, Boston and Taiwan, as well as with Hamburg Opera, Boston Chamber Orchestra, and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2021, Chuan-an completed his Konzertexamen at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg under Matthias HÖFS.
In addition to orchestral and solo performances, Chuan-an has participated in many international competitions, including semi-final 4 trumpets of XVI Tchaikovsky Competition, 1st Prize winner of 2013 USA National Trumpet Competition, winner of 2013 Jeju International Brass Competition, finalist in the 2012 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Solo Competition, 1st Prize in the 2010 Conservatory Concerto Competition and 2nd place in the 2009 International Trumpet Guild Solo competition.
Chuan-an is currently Assistant Professor at National Taiwan University of Arts and also ambassador of Schilke trumpet.
Organ|HSU Chia-yu
HSU Chia-yu graduated from the Graduate Institute of Music at National Taiwan Normal University, majoring in piano. In recent years, has focused on studying the organ and is currently enrolled in the Graduate Institute of Musicology at National Taiwan University, dedicating to the study of the organ in Taiwan. Chia-yu has participated in performances such as the National Concert Hall's Mini Organ Concerts, the 10th Anniversary Concert and the Distinguished Members Concert of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), Taiwan Chapter. Currently as a member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and responsible for planning the 2025 Mini Organ Concerts at the National Concert Hall.
